With 23 miles of pristine beach, a picture-perfect backdrop of rolling hills, a perfect climate, a rich history, and a convenient location off Highway 101 between San Francisco and Los Angeles, it’s amazing that Pismo Beach remains as quiet and quaint as it is.
So much to do and explore
Treat yourself to endless hours of outdoor activities, including surfing, kitesurfing, sea kayaking, surf fishing, hiking, bicycling, rock climbing, hang gliding, horseback riding, golf and even clamming. Ride your ATV on the famous Oceano Dunes, or go soak at the Avila hot mineral springs. Wander in the coastal valleys of our “Little Napa and taste of the finest vintages of wines and champagnes in the United States and the world. Venture up meandering Highway One (the original Pacific Coast Highway) and discover picturesque Cambria, San Simeon and Hearst Castle. Visit the elephant seals along the coastline marine sanctuary and the spectacular cliffs of Big Sur.
Or just relax on the beach adjacent to the famous Pismo pier. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy shopping or browsing in the quaint businesses along old Pomeroy Street. Pismo Beach restaurants are always in competition for the title of “best clam chowder, but you're the winner there. Of course, don't forget to try our own abalone chowder and fine California cuisine at the SeaVenture restaurant.
Local festivals, shows & activities
Despite Pismo Beach’s small size, there’s always something happening. Check out our calendar of events to find out more about the celebrated Pismo classic car show in June, the famous Monarch butterfly migration in January and February, the spectacular July 4 fireworks on the pier, “Western Days in September, and, of course, the Pismo Clam Festival in October. Also visit one of our Farmers Markets featuring local produce and flowers.
Join a whale watching tour for an awesome experience. Or explore the famous Montaña de Oro State Park with its many hiking trails.
